European companies and individuals having their residence in Europe may act directly before the E. P. O. or designate a European Patent Attorney to act through him. They may also designate a European attorney at law.
Non European enterprises or individuals having their residence outside Europe have to designate one of these two professional representatives.
The European patent attorney advises and assists the persons who entrusted him to act on their behalf before the E. P. O.
Professional conduct
To act as an independent adviser and observe professional secrecy. These two conditions for practising the profession are completed by the obligations of confidentiality between professional representatives or attorneys at law and of refusal a term that would place the European patent attorney in a conflict of interests.
